Colum McCann (Ireland)
Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, McCann is the author of six novels and three collections of stories. He has been the recipient of many international honors, including the National Book Award, the International Dublin Impac Prize, several European awards, and the 2010 Best Foreign Novel Award in China. He is a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres and a member of the Irish arts academy. The short film Everything in this Country Must, based on one of his stories, has been nominated for an Oscar. His work has been published in over 35 languages. McCann is the co-founder of the non-profit global story exchange organization, Narrative 4, which brings young people together from all over the world in the aim of cultivating empathy and crushing stereotypes by getting to know one another’s stories. McCann teaches at the MFA program in Hunter College. He lives in New York with his wife, Allison, and their three children.
