Poet, playright, actor, director and translator,Tarık Günersel retired from Istanbul City Theater as a dramaturg. His works include Breaths of Infinity (Sonsuzluk Solukları, a mosaic of poems), and My 300th Birthday Speech (short stories). Becoming (Oluşmak) consists of is a collection of his aphorisms and various ideas from world wisdom.
His plays include The Golden Fleece, Billennium, Nero and Agrippina, Sociology of Shit, Threat (a biographical play on Lev Tolstoy), and Virtually Yours. His stage adaptations include Our Anne Frank, a monodrama based on the diary.
He has written four opera libretti for the composer Selman Ada: Ali Baba & 40, Blue Dot, Forbidden Love, and Another Planet. His translations into Turkish include works by Arthur Miller, Samuel Beckett, Vaclav Havel in addition to Savyon Liebrecht’s play, The Banality of Love on Hannah Arendt.
His presentation of World Poetry Day to PEN International in 1997 led to its adoption by UNESCO. Ex-president of PEN Turkey Center, in Tokyo he was elected to PEN International Board for 2010-12. In 2013 he initiated The Earth Civilization Project with various intellectuals from around the world.
