Galina Zelenina
Galina Zelenina (Gila Loran) was born and lives in Moscow. She has authored three books of poetry: W (2000), Voilà: Genre Anthology (2004), The first word has been eaten by a cow (2008) and a book of Neo-Midrash narratives Freakipaedia, or Adventures of a Spall (2010), as well as a number of publications in journals and almanacs Babylon, RISK, TextOnly (Moscow), Volga (Saratov), Solnechnoe Spletenie, Dvoetochie/Nekudataim (Jerusalem), etc.
She is a scholar in the field of medieval and Jewish history, she wrote a book From Judah’s Scepter to the Buffoon’s Club: Court Jews in Medieval Spain (2007) and edited a volume of collected papers Jews: Another History (2013) and a volume of interviews Wissenschaft des Judentums Two: Renaissance in portraits (in print).
She worked as an editor for Gishrei Tarbut publishing house and as a managing editor of Booknik.ru, taught at the Department of Jewish studies of Institute for Asian and African studies of Moscow State University and at History department of Higher School of Economics. Now she is an associate professor at the Center of Biblical and Jewish studies of Russian State University of the Humanities and she also works as a section editor for Lechaim journal.
