Liudmila Ulitskaya
Liudmila Ulitskaya was born in 1943 in the Urals. She graduated from the Moscow University with a degree of Master in Biology, and later worked in the Institute of Genetics as a scientist. Shortly before perestroika (1979-1982) she became a repertory director at the Moscow Jewish Theatre, scriptwriter, and later a writer.
Ulitskaya can be defined as one of the most profound and far-reaching writers of the contemporary Russia. She made her first appearance on the literary stage as a short stories writer (1990-1999): several collections, published under various titles full of rich colour and psychological details. Some of those books were immediately translated abroad. She is an author of multiple fiction books (translated into more than 40 languages, over 3.000.000 copies sold worldwide), of several books for children and of plays staged by theatres in Russia, Germany, France, and Hungary.
