התערוכה "חיות אדם" מבטאת שיתוף פעולה ודיאלוג בין כתיבה לציור: בין המחזאי והמשורר יהושע סובול לבין הציירת רותי הלביץ כהן. התערוכה מתכתבת עם מחזהו החדש של סובול "המדוזה" (הועלה לראשונה בלונדון בחודש האחרון) המתייחס לציורו המפורסם של ג'ריקו "רפסודת המדוזה" מ-1818. בתערוכה יוצגו עבודות חדשות ועבודות שייווצרו בשיתוף פעולה של שני האמנים ישירות על קירות הגלריה, הן בכתיבת שירה והן בציור. מחזהו של סובול יוצא מתוך ציור והופך אותו למילה, מילה עכשווית, בעוד הלביץ כהן יוצאת מתוך המחזה ומחזירה אותו לציור, ציור עכשווי. העבודות "ייצאו" מהבד אל קירות הגלריה וינווטו על ידי גריד של שורות העשויות מסקנטייפ. התערוכה בוחנת את הקושי בחיבור בין שני המדיומים וכיצד כל אמנות משלימה זו את זו ויחד עם זאת שומרת על עצמאותה וייחודה.
שיח הגלריה יעסוק במפגש ובתהליך המשותף שעברו היוצרים, יוקראו קטעים ושירים מהמחזה, זאת תוך כדי דו שיח בין כתיבה לציור והחיים עצמם.
The exhibition “Human Beasts” expresses a cooperation and dialogue between writing and painting: between poet and playwright Joshua Sobol and artist Ruthi Helbitz Cohen. The exhibition is a discourse with Sobol’s newest play “The Medusa” (premiered in London last month), reflecting on Géricault’s famous painting “The Raft of the Medusa” from 1818. The exhibition will feature new works, together with collaborations by the two artists, in both poetry and painting, directly on the gallery walls. Sobol’s play emerges from the painting and transforms it into words, contemporary words, while the works of Helbitz Cohen emerge from the script which she then transforms into contemporary painting. The works “depart” from the canvas onto the gallery walls and are directed by a grid line made from masking tape. The exhibition explores the difficulty of connecting the two media and how different artistic expressions can complement one another, while still maintaining their independence and uniqueness.
The gallery discussion will address the meeting point of the artists and the joint process they went through. Poems and segments from the play will be read, and a dialogue will follow between painting, writing and life itself.
