What is the connection between spoken word, cabaret, and Yiddish?
Benjamin Harshav’s Yiddish poetry takes on a new life on stage in an evening of poetics, rhythm, and sound
Benjamin Harshav began his poetic career as a boy, after World War II, and within a short time became the most important new Yiddish poet of his time. In his work he gave voice to an entire generation of Holocaust survivors.
At this event, Harshav’s poetry and its reading in Yiddish and Hebrew will serve as musical raw material: The Hazelnuts Sisters will perform original melodies for his poems accompanied by an ensemble of musicians under the artistic direction of musician Shlomi Fridge. Shmulik and Anat Atzmon will read from the poems, while performer Mendy Cahan, founder and director of Jung Yiddish, will discuss Harshav and his work.
* The audience is requested to arrive approximately 20 minutes before the start of the event.
* Latecomers will not be admitted.
* The number of seats is limited. The program is subject to change.
