A Political Story
Thursday, 5.9.19, at 19:30
Djanogly Hall, Mishkenot Sha’ananim Cultural Center
Most of the people of Israel identify with conservative attitudes typical of the political right, but contemporary Hebrew literature—as far as it is concerned with politics—usually presents politically, economically, and socially leftist positions. Right-wing writers, on the other hand, often refrain from addressing these issues.
Why is there no local literature that voices the national-Zionist narrative? Does the audience also identify with a particular political camp? Are the authors detached from the people? And is the situation gradually changing?
A discussion on the absence of the right-wing voice from Israeli literature, Israeli literature’s identification with leftist values, and the connection between ideology and creativity
Moderator: Yuval Avivi
Featuring: Arnon Itiel, Emily Amrusi, and Yishai Sarid
