Common Ground: Prominent Poets Meet Emerging Poets

 The Israeli poetry scene is changing. The change is evident both in the variety of young writers who express themselves through poetry and in the broad scope of issues this new generation of poets incorporate into their poetry. Although the young generation’s voice is much more resolved and frank when social and political issues are concerned, and it appears as if a new poetic action is taking shape, one that demands to be more engaged in Israeli reality, previous generation poets – such as Ronny Someck, Erez Biton, Israel Eliraz, Agi Mishol and others – dealt with similar themes and, through their poetry, sought to debate the core issues of Israeli society.

In this series, an emerging poet will meet a known poet to discuss a common subject reflected in their writing. They will explore poetry’s role in society and its capacity to change and shape the reality it describes, and further examine the reflection of reality in poems of the past and present to find out whether they portray the same situation or hopefully a better world.

For the third event, Ronny Someck and Tahel Frosh will meet to discuss and share their poetry.
